Religious

So much of the older art one sees in museums is religious, in great part because most art was religious before the 1450s. Religion was central in people's lives back then, and all the Renaissance palaces and churches needed paintings. There was a flurry of activity,  artists copying each other, and traveling the length of Europe trying to learn and earn.
