Crypt of San Marco
I never saw the crypt except in a small, dark, and grainy photo. But I wanted to set a scene in my film, Millie and the Disco Queen, in the crypt. That was reason enough to paint this.
Inscription on back:
The crypt of St. Mark's Basilica was built in the 9th c. to be the resting place for the remains of St. Mark the Evangelist. It was built in the Byzantine style. Due to periodic flooding, the saint''s remains have been placed under the basilica's high altar, but many saints, bishops, and other prominent religious figures from Venice's past are still buried there.
This card is blank inside.
The back side is printed with the following:
The work's title, the year it was made, the medium, the artist's name, and contact info.
There may be an inscription, which is subject to change.
